BMS testing and commissioning

Testing and commissioning is the stage where the system proves it works as designed: every sensor reads the right value, every command reaches its equipment, and every sequence of operation responds as written. We take this stage through to consultant sign-off, whether we installed the system or someone else did.

Testing and commissioning stages

  1. Readiness reviewConfirm the cabling is complete, panels are connected and equipment is on permanent power, and give the contractor a list of anything missing.
  2. Point-to-point checksEvery point is checked from the field device to the screen: sensor readings are compared with a measuring instrument, and every command is carried out on the equipment.
  3. Functional testsThe sequence of operation is tested for every plant item: start and stop, rotation, fault conditions, changeover to standby and alarms.
  4. Witness testingA sample of the tests is repeated with the consultant present, and their comments are recorded and closed out.
  5. HandoverSigned forms, as-built drawings, backups and operator training.

Common questions

Do you test systems you did not install?

Yes, provided the drawings, points list and access credentials for the station and controllers are available. We review what exists first and identify what needs correcting before testing.

What is the difference between point-to-point checks and functional tests?

Point-to-point checks confirm that each sensor and command is wired and working on its own. Functional tests confirm that the whole plant item runs according to the written sequence of operation.

How long does testing and commissioning take?

It depends on the point count and how ready the site is. It goes much faster when equipment is installed and on permanent power and the mechanical contractor is ready to run it.
